Which Dildo Materials Are Best?

One of the most common questions that we get here at Lesbians Unlimited are ‘which dildo materials are best’. While we have our personal preferences, the answer to that question really depends on a number of factors – how you will be using the dildo, the amount of care you want to give your sex toys, how much you want to spend, among other things. Here’s a brief rundown of our preferred dildo materials.

Silicone Dildos

This is by far our personal favorite dildo material. High quality silicone dildos like those on the Tantus range come in a number of shapes and styles that fit most lesbians check-boxes when it comes to shape and style. You want a realistic looking dildo? You can get that in silicone styles. Want one that’s less phallic and does the job? That’s covered as well.

One of our favorite parts about silicone sex toys is that you can place them in the top rack of the dishwasher for a quick and easy cleaning.

The down side to silicone sex toys? You really shouldn’t use silicone lubricants with them. There’s also stories about silicone toys being stored touching each other and the toys breaking down at the contact point over time. So if you have a mix of toys in your box, you may want to keep the silicone ones in a pouch for safe keeping.

Glass & Steel Dildos

Want something hard, stiff and unweilding? Something you can heat up or cool down for temperature play? Or just looking for a texture that’s something other than flesh-like? Glass dildos and steel dildos are a material you should give a try.

Just like silicone dildos, these can be cleaned in the dishwasher as well.

One of the limitations that we find with glass and steel toys is that they aren’t practical for packing, unless you want that hard-on look 24/7. It’s also difficult to find those with flared bases that can be used in harnesses – but there are a few out there.

TPR / TPE Dildos

TPR and TPE seem to be the catch-all mix of synthetic materials that are made from various plasticizers. They’re ideal for those who want realistic looking toys – veins and all – without the worry of having a toy that’s too porous.

Depending on the TPR mix, you’ll get something as firm and ridged as a piece of plastic, or something as soft and flexible as a jelly toy (without the down sides of jelly).

“Cyberskin”, “UR3” & Other Skin Style Material Dildos

Many sex toy manufactures – especially those in the ‘realistic’ or ‘porn star‘ style niches come up with their own proprietary recipe for their sex toy materials.

While these toys have an extremely lifelike feel to them and can be molded with amazing detail, they are quite porous and need quite a bit of care to keep in their tip-top condition.

If you want a real looking cock for packing, this is the way to go.

You may have noticed that we’ve purposely left out a few common sex toy materials – namely jelly and latex. Yes, they are the cheapest sex toy material out there, but that’s for a reason. First, they’re awful for the body – full of phthalates and other chemicals that are awful for the body, way too porous for any reasonable amount of play, and they crack quite quickly even after gentle use. Just stay away.

Staying Safe On Lesbian Dating Sites

You’ve finally gathered up the courage to join a lesbian dating site – congratulations! A lot of ladies never even make it to this step. Now that you’ve discovered a lesbian dating site that works for you, Lesbians Unlimited wants to make sure that your experience here is as safe and secure as possible. That’s why we’ve put together some suggested safety guidelines when it comes to interacting with members of this lesbian dating site.

Lesbian Dating at Sapphic DatingSetting Up Your Account and Interacting With Other Members

The number one thing that you need to remember is that you are in control of how much information you share. We strongly suggest you remain as anonymous as possible until you are totally comfortable giving out more personal information. Please don’t share your real name, home address, place or work or any other identifying information until you have established a certain level of trust with your potential lesbian partner.

Take advantage of the options available to you at lesbian date sites like Sapphic Dating. Some have chat rooms that let you have real time conversations with other members. Others have internal mailing systems allows you to send messages to other members without giving away your email address. Many members create separate email accounts for their online dating – one that does not have their real name in it – if they choose to communicate with their potential lesbian partner offline.

Obviously, never give any financial information to anyone you meet online. This is a major red flag when it comes to fraudsters hoping to take advantage of our members. Do not wire anyone money as you will have no recourse to get the funds back to you. Do not give away your credit card or banking information.

Other red flags to keep a look out for when using online lesbian dating services are:

  • Immediately asking to contact you via outside chat or email services
  • Closing down one account and immediately opening up another one
  • Discussing how it’s ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’ that you met before you’ve got to know each other
  • Wanting to know your home address for gift deliveries
  • Claiming to be from your home country, but always travelling aborad

Meeting Offline

So you’ve got to know a special someone and you want to meet up in real life. This is an exciting time –enjoy those ‘first date butterflies’! After you’ve got to know someone on an online dating site for lesbians and want to meet offline, there are still precautions you should take to keep safe.

You want to keep this first date in public. As much as you may be tempted to return to your date’s home for a night cap, this isn’t the safest thing to do. Another tip to keeping safe after meeting online is to drive yourself to your date. Even if this means taking a taxi, it’s key that you have control over getting to and from the date. Don’t rely on them for a ride. This is doubly important if you’re travelling far and staying overnight to be near your date. Use your own hotel room – not their house – to stay in.

Be sure that there is at least one other person that knows where you are going and around how long you will be out. This is where your best friend comes in handy! Most off all – enjoy your time with your new date. Once again, congratulations for taking this first step on your online dating journey!

Picking Out The Right Strap On Harness For You

Out of the hundreds of styles of strapon harness out there, sometimes narrowing down the best one for you and your lover can be a difficult task. Between getting a harness that fits you best, works with your own sex toys, and isn’t impossible to clean, picking out the right strapon harness is a bit like picking out a car! (Thankfully, a whole lot less expensive.) If you’re new to the strap-on world, here’s a brief overview of the basic styles of strapon harnesses.

One-Piece Strapon Harnesses – This is the style that most novices pick up, as they tend to be the most affordable and least complex. A single dildo is completely connected to a harness which can be either taken on and off similar to underwear, or strapped onto your body like a belt. Although the cost is lower and they’re easy to use, you’re giving up any options for variety that you’d find with more complex kits which have interchanging dildos. You want to be very sure that both the kind of dildo – in addition to the harness type – fulfills your needs.

O-ring Based Sets – The most in-demand style of strap on harness are the ones that incorporate an o-ring connected to the front section of the harness, where you can insert your preferred dildo. This style allows you many more choices in terms of dildos go, as long as the dildo can fit into your o-ring and has a flared bottom. Lower priced o-ring style harnesses have singular set rings, while others let you to pull out the “O” and exchange it with others of varied size. Try to get o-ring harnesses that are fitted with hooks, snaps or velcro around of the ring, instead of stitched in rings since they’re the easiest to change out.

Modular Strap On Harness Sets – There are actually an increasing number of adult toy companies making their very own sets that have standardized harnesses, dildos, and other toys for fucking. The most common of these is the Vac-U-Lock brand by Doc Johnson. These types of types of ‘limited packs’, you’re restricted to whatever products come in that certain set, so it’s important to make sure that they incorporate the styles and choices that you are searching for. In addition, they are typically pricier, since the brands know you will have to return to their company for all new parts. But, if you find a style that you and your lover enjoy, that’s not usually a problem.

Strapless Strap-ons – Moving away from your regular harness and dildo setup, strapless strapon are called that because rather than an exterior set, the female who is putting on the dildo basically holds it within her vagina. Strapless strap ons have a penetrative dildo at one end, and a bulb- or hook-like part on the opposite that the penetrating woman inserts into her vagina and holds into position using her PC muscles. Many women favor this kind of strap-on because it also provides pleasing feelings to them, in addition to their lover. Using them takes getting used to, and can sometimes be somewhat clumsy for women that don’t possess particularly sturdy PC muscles.
